Joni Mitchell and James Taylor were lovers when they performed at the first Greenpeace benefit concert in Vancouver in 1970. Also on the lineup were folksinger Phil Ochs and Vancouver’s best band at the time, Chilliwack. This duet was recorded by BBC radio shortly after the Greenpeace benefit concert; James wrote the song for Joni, who you can hear giggling near the start of the song:

And here’s a bit of chill funk from 1975 by CurtisMayfield, So In Love:
So In Love by Curtis Mayfield, 1975.
The album cover photo was based on a 1937 black-and-white photo by Margaret Bourke-White, titled At the Time of the Louisville Flood. The advertising slogan in the original photo said “There’s No Way Like the American Way.”
Fifty years after performing at the Greenpeace benefit, here is Bill Henderson, now 75, of Chilliwack playing “Fly at Night,” a hit from 1977 – recently recorded in Vancouver on the Taylor James show:
You don’t see that kind of wide-open-mouth singing much today. You can actually watch Bill Henderson’s tongue; like a live Rolling Stones logo.
I love this New York Times series, Diary of a Song. This one is about Billie Eilish and her songwriting partner, her brother Finneas. It’s from three years ago, when Eilish was 17. They wrote 90% of songs at their parents’ house, in Finneas’ bedroom. Even their mum pops in to take credit for this song’s roots:

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died last month, He was only 50. Here’s my favourite video of the early Foos – an outdoor Vancouver concert at the University of BC in 1998, playing Everlong:
Foo Fighters, University of B.C., 1998. They were the opening act for Green Day.
The last performance of Taylor Hawkins in Chile? That’s what this video is billed as. Once a night, Taylor would switch places with Dave Grohl. It was Taylor’s one time a night to be the lead singer of the Foo Fighters, and it gave Grohl a chance to rock out on the drums. He loved singing Queen songs:
In this video, also from the final days of the South American tour, Hawkins and Grohl don’t switch places. Instead, Grohl calls up an audience member, Rufus Taylor, to play drums – the son of Queen drummer Roger Taylor. Talk about Under Pressure:
