The imagery of Easter is confusing. Why is it about Easter bunnies and eggs? Is it about rebirth, fertility, the resurrection of Jesus?
The Ancient Egyptians believed in a primeval egg from which the sun god hatched. An alternative theory, the sun was sometimes discussed as an egg itself, laid daily by the celestial goose, Seb, the god of the earth. The Phoenix is said to have emerged from this egg. The photo to the left is Palm Sunday in Barcelona, which I took a few years ago while visiting Desigual’s headquarters.
But back to the eggs, bunnies and rebirth. That’s the imagery that the advertising world has given us. Here are a few vintage images of the Easter Bunny and Eggs mythology:

Outside our store we often hear this refrain:
Boz Scaggs had been a member of the Steve Miller band. The song was recorded in 1969 in the now legendary Muscle Shoals studio with then 22-year-old guitarist Duane Allman, who later that year formed the Allman Brothers band. He died in a motorcycle accident in 1971. Also in 1969, Duane recorded The Weight with Aretha Franklin. The same year, Led Zeppelin released two of its seminal Sixties albums, but the most popular song in 1969 was this confection: Sugar Sugar by The Archies….Switching musical gears, this is a Paris duo called The Blaze comprised of cousins Jonathan and Guillaume Alric, who are also filmmakers:
Jonathan explained the meaning of the song: “We all have a place we call home, and we often live far from it. ‘Territory’ tells the story about a young guy going back to his family after a long time. It was, for us, a way to show strong feelings like love, and maybe the arrogance of youth. This situation is never easy — you sometimes have to fight to feel home again, in a place you don’t belong anymore. It’s a strong feeling of joy, and contradiction.”
