I post the same song every Christmas Eve: Joni Mitchell‘s River, her 1971 masterpiece from the album Blue. Two days ago, Joni released a new video to go with the song, which was written after she broke up with Graham Nash.

“River expresses regret at the end of a relationship,” Joni explained, “but it’s also about being lonely at Christmas time… A Christmas song for people who are lonely at Christmas! We need a song like that.”
