Two new Desigual coats, two tops, one shirt at Angel Vancouver

Here are two new coats that arrived with our latest shipment of Desigual from Barcelona. The one with the faux fur is called Asha, the black-and-white one is by Christian Lacroix for Desigual. The black-and-white top with two women on it is also by Lacroix; it’s called Tess and has a Dolman-cut sleeve.

The long-sleeved T-shirt with the pink flower and lace background is called Claire, and the final Desigual shirt is called cowboy. We also have a denim dress called Vuelo Patch (below).

New Minnie Mouse shirt for women from Desigual at Angel Vancouver

This subtle Minnie Mouse shirt just arrived in our new shipment of Desigual, which has partnered with Disney to produce both the Minnie T-shirt and an earlier Mickey shirt for men (see below).

Angel Vancouver carries one of the most extensive collections of Desigual in Vancouver B.C., for both men and women. We are an authorized dealer of Desigual, which is based in Barcelona and produces 1,000 new pieces every season.

By the way, I met Walt Disney. He was a patron of theĀ Chouinard Art School I attended in Los Angeles in the 1960s — Walt would come to the school to see what kind of art the students were making (he never saw some of the lewd drawings some students did of Mickey and Minnie). A few students also worked at Disneyland in the art department. One of them worked on the It’s a Small World exhibit and told me he made the Mountie have rosy cheeks because I had rosy cheeks — he thought all Canadians had rosy cheeks because they were out skiing in the mountains all the time.

One student worked in one of the Disney studiosĀ  that made all the characters for Disneyland — the studio was called Retlaw (Walter spelled backwards) and Walt came in one day drinking a cup of coffee, which he didn’t quite finish. After Walt left, the student took resin to seal the coffee in the cup forever. It’s probably still in the Disney archives somewhere.

I’ve included Andy Warhol’s Mickey Mouse print at the bottom. Did you know Warhol made a surf movie in California in the 1960s that was never released but will be shown for the first time in January 2013?

Going to the South Pole? We’ve got the stylin’ gear at Angel Vancouver

I once was at a party where someone asked: “Have you been to Antarctica lately and seen what’s happening there?” Amazingly enough, three people replied they had visited the remotest of continents. For most of us, going to the South Pole is but a dream that will never come to fruition, mainly because of the cost – at least $10,000. The designers at Desigual are probably among this group. After all, temperatures in Antarctica can plunge to minus 89 degrees C in winter.
Still, we like the T-shirt, the related shirt and this men’s jacket, which has a stylish blue plaid vest that can be removed. For those seriously thinking about heading to the South Pole, the info about the 11 Wonders of the Antarctic is here.

New Desigual rock ‘n’ roll T-shirt just arrived

Among the latest long-sleeved men’s T-shirts to arrive is one called “Music,” a rocker T-shirt with a graphic of an old-school boom box and guitar with the declaration “Live & Dangerous” printed in red and white on black. Tres cool for rockers at heart.

There is also a dark blue “Big Day” shirt with stitched lettering on the front (the shirt is darker blue than the photo below) and a long-sleeved version of the “Taxi!” shirt that came out last summer.

Los Angeles approves spending $125 million on new downtown streetcar system

Last week, I wrote a post about Vancouver’s old streetcar system, which included some historical film footage from 1907 and my lament that our city never kept the two trams used here during the 2010 Olympics. There was a plan to extend the Olympic streetcar line from Science World on False Creek through to Chinatown, Gastown and eventually to Stanley Park. But it never happened. This week,Ā  Los Angeles approved spending $125 million on a new streetcar system for its downtown. The story is here. It shows that some civic leaders have renewed faith in streetcars as a viable transit option.
