Since this is a Father’s Day post, here is a song from 1985 performed live by Mike + The Mechanics, which always makes me think of my departed father:
The song was written by Mike Rutherford, formerly of Genesis, and the lyrics were written by Scottish singer-songwriter B. A. Robertson. Both had lost their fathers shortly before writing the song, which urges everyone to tell their fathers how much they mean to you before they’re dead. The singer is Paul Carrack, one of the best singers on the planet, who was only 11 when he lost his father in a workplace accident in Sheffield, England. Carrack wrote this 1974 song, How Long (Has This Been Goin’ On), when he was in a British band called Ace; it’s performed here with Eric Clapton & friends:
