Angel is located at No. 2 Powell Street in the Gastown district of Vancouver, Canada. We’re on the corner of Powell & Carrall Street in Maple Tree Square, where Vancouver began. The historic photo (left) shows what the location of my store looked like in 1886 (click on photo to enlarge).
The music that appears here is free-associative: A friend posted on Facebook a Top 20 list from a Vancouver radio station in 1969 – 50 years ago. No. 28 on the list was this song — Baby It’s You by a band called SMITH:
So that leads to my thinking about the Beatles version, with a 22-year-old John Lennon singing with authority and a touch a vulnerability:
The remastered version in 2009 moved the instruments to the front and the vocals further back. Lennon still kills the song:
The music was written by Burt Bacharach, the lyrics were by Mack David along with co-writer/producer Luther Dixon (credited as Barney Williams). This is the original 1961 version by The Shirelles:

So the Shirelles begat The Chiffons, Even Berry Gordy took notice and created The Supremes.
