The song’s name was changed for North American listeners, who couldn’t pronounce the Japanese title; the English title had nothing to do with the song, which was the first Japanese hit in America; it hit the top of the charts in 1963. In 1980, new wave band The Vapors used an Oriental riff in their hit Turning Japanese:
Kirsten Dunst’s version of the song was shown in 2009 at the “Pop Life” exhibition in London’s Tate Modern museum. Next is a video by Cyndi Lauper, Hoda Kotb and Sara Bareilles, who mashed up their hits True Colors and Brave to create a song to raise money for the fight against pediatric cancer. The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence as the rebellion’s inspiration, known as Katniss Everdeen, as well as the late Seymour Phillip Hoffman as a rebellion plutarch, Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, who plays President Snow of the government that is trying to quell the rebellion, along with Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Robert Knepper, Elizabeth Banks and Julianne Moore. (A fourth Hunger Games movie, Part 2 of the Mockingjay book, has already wrapped filming and will be shown next year.)
