We’ve just solved one man’s dilemma about what to buy his wife for Valentine’s Day. He happened to be across the street and spotted an Angel hand-painted heart shirt in our store window. Perfect, he said, relieved that he had found a unique gift for his love.

Valentine’s Day also marks the birthday of George Ferris, an engineer who invented the Ferris Wheel. I’ve included below a photo of the first Ferris Wheel, built for the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, and a photo of the view from the top of the ride, which was 264 feet high and had 36 cars — each held 60 people. A band played in one car when the ride was running. Now that would have been a Valentine’s Day to remember.The world’s fair was lit with electric lights using alternating current, which was a new invention at the time. And Buffalo Bill Cody, denied a spot at the world’s fair, set up his Wild West show just outside the fairgrounds. The Wild West shows created a mythology about Cowboys & Indians, especially in Europe, which was fascinated by the American Frontier. The show’s most popular cowgirl: Annie Oakley.
More than 70 million people worldwide saw Buffalo Bill’s Wild West shows from 1883 until 1916. The shows had a cast and crew of 640, plus 400 horses, 40 buffalo, stage coaches and covered wagons. Here’s a Desigual shirt for the Chinese New Year. It’s called Mawu and is part of Desigual’s spring-summer line. Sure, it’s a Dragon on the shirt, and this is the year of the Snake. But dragons and snakes are highly compatible in the Chinese zodiac calendar and are revered in Chinese culture.

We have some stylin’ new shirts from Desigual’s spring-summer 2013 collection at Angel Vancouver, including a white shirt (called James, see photos below) with three subtle horizontal blue stripes that would look great under a sports jacket. There is also a cool red polo shirt (Mawu) with an embroidered dragon on the front, some Spanish lettering, a contrasting-coloured collar and some nice details on the sleeves; and the Eric T-shirt with stripes and Spanish phrases on the front. And for those who like to go bold and colourful, there are the wildly-patterned Finito and Pepito long-sleeved shirts. Here are two new dresses from Desigual’s spring-summer 2013 collection, which are available at Angel Vancouver. The green one is called Issue; the price is $124. The grey one is called Nagore and it’s $119. The latter is a variation on a long-sleeved dress available from Desigual’s fall-winter collection, which we still have in stock in limited sizes.
It’s hard to think of wearing short-sleeved dresses at the moment with the temperatures hovering just above freezing in Vancouver, so we’ve included two new “Lala” sweaters to help you keep warm — one red, the other black.

It seems like lots of people are wearing faux fur at New York fashion week, as photographed by WWD. But not mono colour faux fur — blended colours.
