Josh Ramsay, lead singer of Vancouver band Marianas Trench, at the Grammy Awards with writer/actress Amanda McEwan.

Josh Ramsay, the lead singer of Vancouver band Marianas Trench, dropped into Angel last weekend. He bought a Desigual jacket and a few T-shirts.

Josh lives in the neighbourhood — Gastown — and often walks his dog in front of my store. Josh’s family has a long-time involvement in the music business in Vancouver: his father, Miles Ramsay, used to write jingles and was a co-owner of Little Mountain Sound recording studio; his mother, a vocal coach, used to be a back-up singer for Leonard Cohen. Josh, 29, and his bandmates are recording a new album, earlier releasing this new song: Pop 101, a satire of the pop music biz. The band’s latest video is Here’s to the Zeros, which uses twisted humour to poke fun at the old children’s TV shows Mr. Rogers’ Neighbourhood and Sesame Street. Personally, I think the song needs more cowbell:
