Today’s music video is House of the Rising Sun, released in 1964 by The Animals:The song, recorded in one take, is based on a traditional folk ballad also known as Rising Sun Blues, first recorded in 1933 by Appalachian artists Clarence “Tom” Ashley and Gwen Foster. American musicologist Alan Lomax made a field recording of a 16-year-old girl named Georgia Turner singing the song acappella in the Appalachian hills of rural Kentucky, which was released in 1941. Woody Guthrie also recorded a version in 1941, and it was recorded a few years later by bluesman Leadbelly.
