Irish group U2 has been in Vancouver for weeks, rehearsing for its latest Joshua Tree tour, with its first concert last Friday. Here was the opening song, Sunday Bloody Sunday, recorded live at the Vancouver show; the second video was the sixth song of the night, but the first on the large stage, which has a 200- by 45-foot high-resolution LED screen:
Here’s the same song recorded live 30 years ago on the rooftop of a liquor store in Los Angeles, just as the band was reaching superstardom:
And here is U2’s first TV appearance on RTE in their native Dublin in 1980, where they were introduced as the “Band for the Future, the ’80s or ’90s, who knows?”:
