Today’s video is the first hit by The Bangles, Manic Monday, released on Jan. 27, 1986:The song was written by Prince and was originally recorded two years earlier by Appolonia 6 (to hear that version, click here) but it was never released. The Bangles had a second hit that year with Walk Like an Egyptian. Here’s another hit about Monday, I Don’t Like Mondays, by the Boomtown Rats:The band’s lead singer, Bob Geldof, had been a music reviewer in the 1970s in Vancouver, Canada for many years, but he had to return to Ireland to obtain a work visa. He planned returning to Vancouver but got sidetracked when a friend asked if he wanted to try singing for a new band….Now Sir Geldof, he is best known for organizing two Live Aid concerts for African famine relief in July 1985, almost 30 years ago. The live concerts were watched by an estimated two billion people worldwide.
