Two days ago I posted some of the 2013 designs by French couturier Christian Lacroix for Desigual, and included some of the pieces we still have at Angel Vancouver from last season.
Lo and behold, I found a few more pieces today in my store, including this stunning coat, called Blue Elektra, which I think is one of the best coats every produced by Desigual.
I also found this short Lacroix jacket called Sweet Emotion. Very sweet indeed. You won’t find another one like it.
These will disappear soon, so this is the last chance to get them before they’re gone. (Update: I sold the Sweet Emotion jacket June 12, 2013)
Desigual can’t use Lacroix’s name on their designs, but refers to him as Mr. L or Monsieur L, or simply by attaching a large “L” to garments or using a stylized image of his face on the labels.

Below are are a few of the latest pieces designed by French couturier Christian Lacroix for the Barcelona-based Desigual. I earlier wrote about how Lacroix and Desigual began their collaboration in 2011.
Here’s what Lacroix had to say when he first saw a woman wearing Desigual:
“I was awestruck by the first girl dressed by Desigual that I saw in Paris. As I watched her, I could recognize in her a member of my own tribe. It was an explosion of colours and patchwork under the elegant, discreet and always monotonous French sky. It was fantastic, truly love at first sight, a breath of fresh air, all multicoloured, scorching, revitalizing, radiating Mediterranean colours and flavours and creeping into this global and colourless magma inhabited by zombies and clones.”

Canada’s first rock star astronaut, Chris Hadfield, has released an amazing video of him singing David Bowie’s Space Oddity and playing guitar on the International Space Station.
(The Globe & Mail reported on May 13, 2014 that Hadfield explained the one-year licence for Bowie’s song had expired: “We had permission from David Bowie’s people to post the video on YouTube for a year, and that year is up. We are working on renewing the licence for it, but as there are no guarantees when it comes to videos shot in space, we thought you might want to have one last look before we take it down.” Since it was posted on YouTube, the video has been viewed more than 22.4 million times.)
The video release was announced in this tweet Sunday from @Cmdr_Hadfield: “With deference to the genius of David Bowie, here’s Space Oddity, recorded on Station. A last glimpse of the World…”
The images of space and the Earth below while he sings is simply stunning.
Commander Hadfield, who oversaw a space walk over the weekend to fix an ammonia leak, wowed earthlings several times with his musical and video productions during his five months in space. This latest video was his farewell as he handed over control of the Space Station on Sunday afternoon to Russian cosmonaut Pavel Vinogradov.
Bowie, who released a new video of his own recently, approved of Hadfield’s version, tweeting: “Hallo Spaceboy…” He later added on Facebook: “It’s possibly the most poignant version of the song ever created.”
A former Bowie band member, Emm Gryner, played piano on Hadfield’s version, which tweaked the lyrics to fit the setting, and worked with her fellow Canadians, producer Joe Corcoran and filmmaker Andrew Tidby, to complete the video before its launch.
And here are Hadfield’s final reflections on his space odyssey before he returns to Earth today (Monday):

And here is a video of one of my favourite spots in Barcelona: El Mercat de la Boqueria, the public market that dates back to 1200. It’s a great place to stop to have an espresso, served by Juanito at the Pinotxo Bar (Pinochio Bar), or a glass of cava and some tapas from a bar stool at one of the restaurant counters in the market. Or you can shop and sample the food as you go. For food lovers, this place is a dream.

The first is a magician comedian who lives in Florida who goes by the name Billy Bob Steinberg. His friend ordered him a surprise birthday present — a handpainted shirt with cow spots. He bills himself as the Moogician. Here’s his letter that I received this morning:

We also recently shipped a Desigual “Pole” shirt to a man living in Florida. He had seen the shirt while in the Bahamas, tried it on but couldn’t find one in his size. He found us online (angelvancouver.com) and ordered one. We shipped it to him right away, in time for him to wear it on the weekend, where he got plenty of positive comments about the shirt.
And here’s a Norwegian man (below) who also bought a Desigual Pole shirt earlier this year — he took the photo at his home, and also another of him wearing a Desigual shirt from last fall that he bought from us.
And below are photos of some hand-painted shirts I recently did for a Vancouver couple who are going to Africa on a safari — they bought lion shirts for themselves and two kids shirts for the children of the couple who operate the safari camp (THE LAST TWO BELOW).
